Neatly Packed vs TripIt: which fits your trip?
Neatly Packed works out the bag: the right amount of everything from your nights, weather and plans. TripIt organises your bookings. A short quiz to see which your trip needs.
Neatly Packed works out what goes in your bag: the right amount of everything from your nights, the weather and your plans, with tips for 58 destinations, kept on your phone and paid once (as of October 2026). TripIt does a different job, organising your bookings into one itinerary from the confirmation emails you forward it.
So this is not a “which is better” page. It is a “which fits your trip” page, with a short quiz to help, and many trips will want both.
Does your trip need a packing app, an itinerary app, or both?
Answer these five questions in your head (the quiz is just a rule of thumb, not research), then count your As and Bs.
- What worries you most the night before? A: Forgetting something I needed, or taking far too much. B: Missing a connection or losing a confirmation.
- How many bookings does this trip have? A: One or two, or I know them by heart. B: Several, such as flights, a hotel and a train.
- What do you want help with? A: How many of each thing to take, and what the place needs. B: When and where I need to be.
- Where do your confirmations live? A: I do not have many to keep track of. B: Scattered through my inbox.
- Who needs to see the plan? A: It is mostly me and one bag. B: My family or colleagues want the times.
Mostly A
Start with Neatly Packed. Your bookings are simple and the bag is the thing that goes wrong. A list built from your place, nights, weather and plans solves that, with the counts worked out and the reason shown with Premium.
Mostly B
Start with TripIt. Your trip is mostly a puzzle of times and places, and having it all in one place matters more than the contents of your bag. You can still pack from a plain list, or add Neatly Packed when the bag gets complicated.
A mix of both
Use both. That is the honest answer for a long trip with many bookings and a bag that has to fit. Further down, one section shows how they sit together.
What is Neatly Packed built for?
For the bag. Tell it the place, your nights, the weather and your plans, and it builds a list with the right number of each item. The free list gives one more than your nights for underwear, socks and T-shirts, up to seven. With Premium, laundry or a light packing style brings the numbers down, and the reason shows under each count.
Pick a place and you get local tips and the plug type and voltage, with the adapter put on the list. There are tips for 58 destinations. The forecast is opt-in: tap “Check the weather” for about nine days ahead, and if rain is coming the app offers to add a rain jacket or an umbrella. Items join your list when you tap them.
Neatly Packed in numbers
As of October 2026, from the Neatly Packed site and app.
It keeps the trip together too. You add flights, stays, trains, buses and activities yourself, and nothing is scanned or forwarded, so it needs no access to your email. Bookings can suggest items, only when you agree, and a flight or train can show the time to leave home. Documents are stored encrypted on your phone. Each trip shows the local time, the currency, emergency numbers and handy phrases, plus a plain guide to liquids, batteries and bag sizes. A countdown, a reminder the day before and a suitcase meter round it off.
With Premium you can lay out an itinerary by morning, afternoon and evening, keep a budget with splits and write a trip journal. That makes it a light itinerary tool, not a TripIt replacement.

How do Neatly Packed and TripIt compare, side by side?
The two apps do different jobs, so most rows show a different strength. A tick means we could confirm it on the app’s own pages.

Where is TripIt stronger?
Anywhere the job is bookings.
- Getting bookings in. Forward a confirmation and it builds the itinerary for you. In Neatly Packed you type bookings in.
- Alerts. The App Store lists Pro features such as real-time flight status alerts, a heads-up if you may be eligible for a refund when a fare drops, alerts before reward points expire, and airport maps. Its Pro page adds a seat tracker and check-in reminders. Neatly Packed has none of these.
- Documents and sharing. The App Store says you can upload PDFs, photos, boarding passes and digital passport QR codes to your itinerary, sync it to your calendar, or share it with anyone you choose.
- Depth. For frequent flyers, business travellers and anyone with a pile of connected bookings, it goes much deeper than our lighter itinerary.
Neither its store page nor its Pro page describes a packing list. TripIt is about your plans and bookings, and that focus is its strength.

Can you use both on one trip?
Yes, and for a work trip it is a pleasant combination.
It is the night before. The flight is confirmed in TripIt, the hotel too, and the times are all in one place. The bag, though, is still empty on the floor. This is where you open Neatly Packed, set the nights and the weather, tick business and dinner as your plans, and let it count. Our business trip packing list shows what a good bag looks like.
Neatly Packed will not read your TripIt trip, so you enter the dates once. That takes a minute. So the split is simple: TripIt for the plan, Neatly Packed for the bag.
Now a different trip: a week at the coast with the family, one hotel and one flight each way. Here you may not need an itinerary app at all, because the plan fits in your head. The bag is the part with a hundred small decisions, so a packing app earns its place. Our cruise packing list is a good example of a trip where the bag takes real thought.

Where each app sits
What each app is mainly for.
Most trips need a bit of both, which is why many people use the pair together.
Choose Neatly Packed if
- The bag is what goes wrong: too much, not enough, or the wrong adapter.
- You want the right amount of each item worked out from your nights, with the reason shown.
- You want to type your bookings in and keep them on your phone, rather than forward your emails.
- You would rather pay once ($4.99 for Premium, as of October 2026) than yearly.
- You want tips and a plug adapter for the place.
Choose TripIt if
- You have many bookings and want them built into one itinerary from your emails.
- You want flight alerts and similar Pro features, and you fly often enough to use them.
Both are free to start, so a real trip is the best test. For a short break, our long weekend packing list may be all the packing help you need.

Neatly Packed and TripIt: your questions
Is Neatly Packed or TripIt better for packing?
Neatly Packed, because packing is its job: it works out the right amount of each item from your place, nights, weather and plans. TripIt’s store page describes itinerary and booking organisation and does not describe a packing list.
Do I need TripIt and a packing app?
Not always. If your trips are simple, Neatly Packed alone may be enough. If you have many bookings, TripIt keeps them in order and Neatly Packed handles the bag.
Does Neatly Packed read my emails?
No. You add bookings yourself, and they are stored on your phone.
Can Neatly Packed keep my tickets?
Yes. You can add flights, stays, trains, buses and activities, and keep tickets and documents with the trip, encrypted on your phone. It does not send flight alerts the way TripIt Pro does.
Is TripIt free?
The app is free to download and organises your itineraries. TripIt Pro is a yearly plan, listed at $48.99 a year on the App Store and $49 a year on its Pro page, as of October 2026. Neatly Packed is free to start, with Premium as one payment of $4.99.
What is the best app for packing and itineraries together?
Neatly Packed covers both lightly, with the itinerary as a Premium feature. TripIt goes much deeper on itineraries. If your trip is mostly bookings, start with TripIt; if the bag is the worry, start with Neatly Packed.
