An open suitcase on a bed holding folded linen shirts and leather sandals in soft morning light

Neatly Packed is built to count. Tell it the place, your nights, the weather and your plans, and it works out the right number of each item, with tips and the plug adapter for 58 destinations, kept on your phone for a one-time $4.99 (as of October 2026). PackPoint also builds a list from your trip, and it connects to TripIt, so it suits you if your bookings already live there.

Here is how the two compare, where PackPoint is stronger, and our view on who should pick which.

Friday night, six nights in Lisbon: how does Neatly Packed build your list?

Picture it. The flight is on Sunday, the suitcase is open on the bed, and a half-folded pile of clothes sits on the chair. You want a list in about two minutes.

You tell Neatly Packed the place, the nights, the weather and your plans: beach, business, dinner, hiking, exercise or sightseeing. If you tap “Check the weather”, it fetches a live forecast for about nine days ahead, and if rain is coming it offers to add a rain jacket or an umbrella. Items join your list when you tap them. Further out than that, you pick the weather you expect.

Then the question everyone asks at nine o’clock on Friday night: how many T-shirts? The free list counts from your nights: one more than your nights for underwear, socks and T-shirts, up to seven. Six nights in Lisbon gives seven of each. Lisbon’s pavements are polished stone, so the list also puts in shoes with real grip, and the Type C/F plug adapter Portugal needs. With Premium, laundry on the trip or a light packing style brings the counts down, and the reason shows under each number.

PackPoint asks for similar things: your destination, departure date and nights, then it builds the list from trip length, weather and activities, and suggests an umbrella if rain is forecast. It lets you tap the plus sign to change any quantity, tick “Repeat Basics” if you will re-wear shirts and trousers, and tick “Laundry” if you will have laundry access. So both apps count; they just go about it differently. If you want the maths behind our numbers, our guide to how many outfits to pack for a week walks through it.

Counting is where a packing list earns its keep.

What is Neatly Packed built for?

For people who want the counting done, and everything for the trip in one place.

Counts with a reason. With Premium, each number shows why it is what it is, so you can see why it says six T-shirts and not nine. The free list already counts from your nights.

Local tips and the right plug. Pick a place and the list picks up what a normal list misses, with the plug type and voltage. There are tips for 58 destinations.

Everything on your phone. No account is needed, and your trips stay on your phone. Documents are stored encrypted with the trip, and you can add flights, stays, trains, buses and activities yourself. Bookings can suggest items, only when you agree. There is also a plain guide to liquids, batteries and bag sizes (it tells you to check your airline and airport for exact limits), emergency numbers and handy phrases, a countdown, and a reminder at 9 in the morning the day before you go.

Where is PackPoint stronger?

In three places, and they are real ones.

  • TripIt. If your flights and hotels already live in TripIt, PackPoint can sign in to it and create your lists automatically. Neatly Packed asks you to add bookings by hand.
  • Price up front. Its Premium Package is listed at $2.99 on the US App Store, against our $4.99. The store also lists two separate $0.99 add-ons, and it does not spell out what each includes, so check before you buy.
  • Sharing. Its website says you can share your packing list with fellow travellers. Ours can be shared or exported as text, not edited together.

It is also well liked: the US App Store showed 4.7 out of 5 from 2.5K ratings when we read it on 21 October 2026.

Both ask for your trip details, so this is about where the weight sits: Neatly Packed leans on what you tell it, PackPoint can also pull from TripIt.

Choose Neatly Packed if

  • You want the right amount of each item worked out from your nights, with the reason shown.
  • You want tips, plug type and voltage for the place, with the adapter on the list.
  • You want your trip, documents and bookings on your phone with no account.
  • You want one payment that also covers bags, travellers, an itinerary, a budget and a journal.
  • You like a forecast you fetch yourself, that offers items rather than pushing them on you.

Choose PackPoint if

  • Your bookings already live in TripIt and you want your list built from them.
  • You want the lowest price up front, and sharing the list with fellow travellers.

Both are free to start, so a real trip is the best test. Enter the same place and nights in each, then check three counts: T-shirts, underwear and socks. Do they match what you would really wear? For the liquids part of the bag, our guide to the toiletry bag and liquids works with either, and a carry-on packing list is a handy yardstick for a cabin-bag week.

Fair comparison note: PackPoint is a product name or trademark of its owner. JPott Studios is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by it. What we say here comes from its own pages and public store listings, read in October 2026, and may have changed since, so please check the source before you decide.
